Historia 1

The creation of a student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) at the National University of Colombia - Medellín , was the idea of ​​the professor of the Faculty of Mines,Alejandro Molina Ochoa , who had seen the creation of an AIChE chapter in The University of the Andes and a chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) by the students of Engineering of Petroleum of National University of Colombia - Medellín.

At the end of 2011, a group of students led by the Elizabeth Giraldo Engineer, who were trying to rescue the  Center for Chemical Engineering Studies , as it had been operating for 3 years since it was founded 35 years ago, due to the closure of the Book Bank (The library of Chemical Engineering); Decided to support the idea of ​​Professor Molina. Thus, a new generation of students was summoned, who would lead the student chapter.

The proceedings before AIChE began in 2012, led by the future advisor Alejandro Molina Ochoa; And it was December 20, 2012 that we received notification of the creation of the student chapter, and the assignment of the Rutgers University chapter as a sister chapter. The activities began with Juan David Perez as president, and Engineers Christian Zuluaga and Yeison Tangarife as advisers for their trajectory in the previous student group;Although officially Christian Zuluaga was the president of the chapter, he could not fulfill the activities for academic matters.

In early 2013, President Juan David Perez, in the company of Engineers Andrés Ospina and Christian Zuluaga, decided to create the "1st Technical Meeting of Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering and Petroleum Engineering ", which would be the first step for the inclusion of The career of Biological Engineering in its activities. This day is known from its second version as Procesa and has had a great acceptance among students of Chemical Engineering and Biological Engineering. To date (2017), this day has four versions and one in planning, which have had the participation of large international guests. On May 16, 2013 , during the first technical day.

In April of 2015, during the third version of Procesa, the direction of the chapter happened to Manuela Walteros who to date had the position of executive director. In its period, conversations were initiated to make the first version of the renowned ChemE Car contest in Latin America, and the student chapter of the University of Michigan was assigned to the chapter as a sister chapter. Earlier this year, former President Juan David Perez won the International Student Chapter Leadership Development Travel Grant for the Annual Student Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA; To stand out during his leadership.

In April 2016, Jefferson Quiroz assumed the presidency of the chapter. During this period, the chapter won for the first time the Outstanding Student Chapter Award , awarded annually to the best chapters. In addition,  Mario Franco , director of logistics and wellness received the Freshman Recognition Award . In July 2016, the student chapter was the first in Latin America to organize the ChemE Car competition, in which it competed and won third place.

Currently the chapter is positioned as one of the most active in Colombia, recognized for its events and links with national and international chapters.
